Going fishing with Darryl on the Mussel Barge Snapper Safari is a highlight I do as often as possible. Have been fishing now for over 2yrs and now, thanks to the help of the skipper, I can bait my own hook, touch a fish and have a great time. The boats have everything on board that we need and I enjoy getting out on the water and spending a few hours relaxing and having fun. My colleagues and I often go out together and this is a great team bonding experience. I will continue to book trips as often as possible, thanks to Darryl and Megan being helpful and accommodating. Hi guys, just a quick note to say what a fabulous time we had in Coromandel..... completely amazing. The fishing was fantastic, a great boat, great fishermen and I even managed to catch one! (see our gallery) The kids loved it and we really appreciated the help from Darryl and the other fishermen in helping them out. Charlotte Timms, England

Just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful trip we had on Saturday.(6/3/10) There were 14 ladies and only 3 that had actually fished before. All of the ladies had a wonderful time and I have had many requests for a repeat next year. I'd really like to thank Darryl, he went out of his way to make us comfortable and his help with taking the hooks out of the fish and untangling the lines made life a lot easier for the 3 fishos we had on board. Just so you know we caught 38 fish and had a perfect weekend. Josie, Hamilton

Just to say thanks for the fabulous two fishing trips we had with you. Rick had two days with you and has talked about your trips to everyone that is heading your way from up here in Dargaville. Coromandel is a very popular stopover after the visitors leave the north. I was the unlucky one and had only one trip as I had to see to my cars brakes, but all was well and we made it back home last week. Limit snapper each trip- how's that!

We have a supply of your brochures at our Visitor Information Centre and hope to get back down to see you again in the not too distant future. Sue and Rick Taylor

Hi guys, just to let you know and say thanks from all the guys from the Go-Bus social club, we had a great day fishing and will be back. A big thanks to Darryl, you were most helpful to a bunch of greenhorns and also not a bad cook. We will be back asap and hope to catch another 60 odd fish. Cheers John

Just a short email to say thanks for your support yesterday(13-5-10)- it was a great day. The fifteen students now have a deeper understanding of the scale of the mussel farming in the Coromandel!!! The snorkelling went down particularly well and we have some good photos and video footage Paul Scott, Mercury Bay Area School

I wanted to send a quick email to thank you for the pleasant day I had with you on the Maata yesterday. (11/7/10) Despite it being freeeeeeeeezing cold and there were no fish to be caught.... talking with you(Hayden, the skipper) made the 5 hrs speed by. I enjoyed hearing about your life as a local living in the Coromandel and was appreciative of how warm and friendly you were; openly sharing information with me about the mussel industry and your own life. The 1st time I went out on the Maata 2 (a long time ago) Roy skippered the barge, the following time Darryl skippered it with Megan and their new, 1st baby was on board with them. Those times and each time since that I've been out with you guys over the years I've had a fantastic time- fish or no fish. You have all been professional, friendly and helpful- a credit to your whole family. Trish Cree, Hamilton City Council

We 12 wise ladies had a great time fishing up all sorts of things, including snapper. Our most talented fisher lady hooked a John Dory, Paraore, Trevally, octopus & half the sea weed, then decided she needed more sturdy hooks and brought up an anchor with ropes attached (she was Maui in training!). The quiet ones need watching, one brought up the biggest snapper of the day. Her sister brought up the big Kingi that was below legal limit! Never mind be back when he grows. Everyone had hook ups, and most all had to throw babies back for next time. Although a couple of our ladies got a little green all the group rallied. Great host Darryl and his wing man Mark were kept on their toes with all the ladies quiet, calm requests for assistance! Greatly appreciated by all, so much so already planning for the return. 17-9-2011 Nga Wahine Toa Te Kau Ma Rua
